We started today's class by finishing the Teddy Roosevelt video from yesterday. We then had a brief lecture on Progressivism. The PowerPoint is included below. With remaining time, we started looking at relevant Progressivism documents.

Today in class we started by discussing the article, "How the West was Really Won." We then started a PowerPoint on American Imperialism. We'll finish this on Friday. The class finished by discussing possibilities for tomorrow's Long Essay.
After finishing the movie, class time as spent discussing the reading of Chapter 26 up to page 601. By Friday, student need to finish Chapter 26 and read Chapter 27. An overview of important terms for Chapters 25 and 26 is included below.
Today's class was spent watching the second hour of Far and Away. At the end of class, students were assigned the article, "How the West was Really Won." A 10% summary is due on Wednesday.

This needs to be done by Friday.
Today's class started with a Type 2 over weekend reading. We then reviewed for tomorrow's test. A copy of the review guide is included below.
The first part of class today was spent on a class debate regarding the effectiveness of late 19th century municipal governments.
We then did a practice Short Answer Question. Remember that the chapter needs to be finished by Monday. **Students were informed today about the opportunity to earn extra credit at office hours. If students come and complete work relevant to areas where they need growth, and can produce evidence of that work, they will receive 5 points of extra credit each time. Roughly 30 points will be available the remainder of the second trimester. Today in class we finished the 14th Amendment synthesis assignment and discussed Urbanization. Remember that you need to be through page 555 by tomorrow. The Type 2 will be closed note.
Today's class focused on an activity in which we went into depth on the process of synthesis. We first did a close reading of the 14th Amendment centered around discussion questions. We then watched a brief video of the historian Eric Foner discussing the significance of the 14th Amendment. This was followed by a reading that finished with an example of a historian using synthesis. The next part of this activity involved drawing comparisons between the Plessy v. Ferguson and Korematsu v U.S. Supreme Court cases. For homework tonight you need to fill out the Plessy box next to "Equal Protection and Due Process." Consider the following:
Class time was spent writing DBQ #3. Students are to have Chapter 24 finished by Monday.
