Class time was spent today taking the multiple choice test over Chapters 4 and 5. Students then had time to start the guided reading for Chapter 6. It is included below. We will be primarily concerned with the French and Indian War and as a result, will not read this entire chapter. By Friday, students need to have p. 107-115 read.
Students had class time today to work on their Chapter 5 readings and/or study for the test. A copy of the review guide for Wednesday's test is included below.
Today we started by discussing how the Navigation Act of 1660 attempted to regulate the colonial economy. The remainder of class was spent reviewing the content from the Chapter 4 Guided Reading. Remember that you have pages due tomorrow. See you then.
Today's class started with a discussion of the two letters that were read during the second half of class yesterday. We continued to discuss how the role of audience and purpose impacts analysis of a document.
We then talked about the role of economics in the century before the American Revolution. Students were introduce to the concept of mercantilism as England attempted to regulate the colonies after a period of salutary neglect. At the end of class, students read through portions of the Navigation Act of 1660, we'll discuss this at the outset of class tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a heavy content day as we discuss the material in Chapter 4. Plan on your first notebook check tomorrow. See you then. Today's class started with a Type 2 reading quiz over the weekend's homework. If you miss a Type 2, it is your responsibility to make it up the day you come back. Before/After school and first lunch are times you can do this. The bulk of class was spent working on an assignment in which we discussed the concept of "sourcing" the documents and students then analyzed three different letters, specifically thinking about how audience and purpose can influence analysis of a document. By Thursday, you need to read p, 72-85. A copy of the Chapter 5 guided reading is included below.
Today's class was centered around the discussion of the article, From These Beginnings. Remember that this weekend you need to read pages 62-72 of Chapter 4. Have a great weekend.
Today in class, students, if needed, finished analyzing the documents from the 1993 DBQ. Groups then wrote a thesis for the question and wrote their thesis on the board. We then examined and discussed the merits of each thesis and if it would earn the thesis point based on the College Board rubric. These are the results for each class 3rd - 3/8 4th - 6/8 5th - 4/8 So we have some work to do, but that's to be expected this time of year. I then handed out the Guided Reading for Chapter 4 (a copy is included below). Hopefully these will help provide you with some focus for your textbook reading this year. Remember that the article questions are due tomorrow. See you then.
Today, we continue our analysis of the documents from the 1993 DBQ that address the differences between the New England and Chesapeake regions. Tomorrow, students, in groups will write a thesis that addresses the questions.
Make sure you continue to work on the article, there will be some time built into class tomorrow for you to ask questions and get some of this work done. Today's class started with a lecture on the basic differences between the New England and Chesapeake regions. The PowerPoint is included below. Students then received new DBQ Rubric and the 1993 DBQ, which examines the differences between the regions. We briefly went over the rubric (it will be a long process learning how to write these essays) and then students got into groups and started analyzing the documents. We will continue this analysis tomorrow and students will write a these in groups.
