We continued the WWI notes today, watched a brief video on Woodrow Wilson and discussed possibilities for tomorrow's essay. Remember that the chapter needs to be finished by tomorrow.

Today we finished our Progressivism DBQ work. Hopefully you are continuing to develop the skills and tools needed to tackle a blind DBQ.
We then got start on some WWI notes which we will finish over the course of the week. Remember that you have an opportunity to earn some extra credit by staying after tomorrow and putting in some extra work. Today's class started with a Chapter 27 Notebook check and a Type 2. We then watched the McKinley/Roosevelt parts of the Presidents Video. This gave a nice overview of expansion and Progressivism (which is next). Reading the first 15 pages of Chapter 28 by Thursday. You should get going on the reading and look over the Period 6 Overview to study for Wednesday's test. The review book is also a useful resource for this type of test.
Class time today was spent writing DBQ #3. Remember that Chapter 27 needs to be finished by Monday. I'll have hard copies of of the guided reading tomorrow.
Seven inches of snow and counting on the west side of town. When there's a possibility of lake effect snow, they should just tell us that and that they really have no idea how much we'll get. So today was day off #11. Officially longer than winter break. I think this is a new record.
But the show must go on. As I told you on Monday, the DBQ is still tomorrow. There should be plenty of time to get these streets dug out and we'll be back at school. You don't want to miss my Throwback Thursday shirt anyway, it's a game changer. A couple of people have sent me stuff to look at for their DBQ, I'll check periodically throughout the day and give feedback on anything sent my way. Don't let Monday's Chapter 27 deadline sneak up on you, it would be a great idea to get it started today. When you think about the last couple of chapters - industrialization, urbanization and westward expansion, remember that these developments were going on at the same time. From the end of the Civil War to the end of the 19th century this country was going through enormous change and growth. There really isn't any other country that has changed so much in such a small amount of time. So it seems natural that this newly powerful country would start to look outward, to start seriously considering the appropriate role of the U.S. in world affairs. And that's what Chapter 27 is about. I hope everyone is well, I don't know about your neighborhood, but my street has not been plowed and is a disaster. So it's an inside kind of day for now. See you tomorrow. After a grueling six days of school in a row, we clearly were due for some time off. We will reschedule the SAQ 2nd chance (once again) for next week. School looks pretty questionable for tomorrow, we'll see. Remember that the next time I see you, Chapter 26 should be done. The Chapter 27 guided reading is on the website, it needs to be done by Monday.
I'm going to be at school working today from 3-5. I'll finish grading make up essays and grade yesterday's Type 2's as well. Remember that you can share a doc with me to get some DBQ feedback. I"ll start responding to those requests probably around 4 and I'll look later tonight as well. This is a key DBQ to fix any issues with document integration. If we don't have school tomorrow, I'll post some day before advice for Thursday's DBQ. Given that I'm going to get all my grading done today, I won't have much going on tomorrow besides re-watching episodes of The Office (it's part of our lifestyle around my house), reading and dealing with whatever weather we get tonight. I hope everyone is well. I'll see you when I see you. Today's class started with a Type 2 and discussion of the assigned Chapter 26 reading. The rest of the class time was spent getting ready for Friday's DBQ. Remember that Chapter 26 needs to be done by tomorrow. See you then.
Class time was first spent today looking over the Period 4/5 Stim-Based Test and talking through the process to answer these types of questions. Students then did a practice 15 min. blind DBQ analysis period. You need to have 574-594 read by Monday.
Have a good weekend! After two pretty rigorous days of discussing Chapters 23 and 24, we dialed it down a little today, watching the Cities episode from America the Story of Us. The deadline for Chapter 25 was extended to tomorrow, you will have a notebook check and a Type 2. See you then.
Wow. That was longer than spring break. So we've got a lot of work to do. We're past the point right now of smaller reading assignments. So here's the plan. Monday, will be a day of Notebook Checks, Type 2's and discussion of Chapters 23 and 24. Same plan as it would have been on Friday, an open note Type 2 on Chapter 23 and a closed note Type 2 on Chapter 24. Chapter 25 needs to be done by Wednesday and 26 by Monday. Chapters 24 and 25 (Industrialization/Urbanization) covers material that you should have some prior knowledge on so that should help you tackle the reading.
I'll hand back the Long Essays on Monday and we'll plan on going over the Stim Based Test later in the week after everyone has taken it. I have an after school meeting on Monday so we'll plan on Tuesday as the day for make ups. I just put all this on the website calendar. Initially, there was going to be a DBQ on Friday 2/8 but that will need to get bumped to later on this month. I'll get that figured out this week after we get a couple of days under our belt. The focus this week is going to be on content. I'm hoping you come to class ready to discuss and engage. See you Monday. |
