Today we went over the schedule for the coming weeks, discussed the article, and reviewed Chapter 17. It will more important than ever that you are diligent about working at home as we work to get back on schedule after having 7 days off. A copy of important terms for tomorrow is included below.
We will go over this in class on Thursday, but here's how it breaks down. The Chapter 17 Test will be Friday, and on February 11th, we will have a test over Chapter 18/19. That means that you essentially are responsible for two chapters in 10 days. This will be a big step in getting us back on track. There will not be articles for either of these chapters to account for the increase in reading load.
Oh yeah, there's a DBQ next Friday too. 1st Period will get their FRQs back tomorrow, 5th period will get them back Friday or Monday. It's time to get back to work. Today we went over the Chapter 15/16 test and started Chapter 17 (Westward Expansion). The Type 2 today addressed the changing policies of the U.S. Government towards Native Americans. During the second half of class, we started the video "Heartland" from the America: The Story of Us series. We'll finish it tomorrow. Tonight's reading assignments are as follows:
1st Period - 498-505 5th Period - 486-492 See you tomorrow. Today students took the Civil War/Reconstruction Test (Chapters 15/16). Afterwards, student had time to work on tonight's reading homework. The assigned pages are as follows:
1st Period - 489-495 5th Period - 481-486 Tomorrow we'll start Chapter 17, which focuses specifically on Westward Expansion. Today in class we reviewed both Civil War and Reconstruction (Chapters 15/16) in preparation for tomorrow's test. The test will have 50 questions with 5 options for each question. A copy of the review guide is included.
Today we discussed a primary document written by Andrew Johnson and also took notes on the basic issues of Reconstruction. I've included the PowerPoint below. Remember that for tomorrow, you are to have your thesis and topic sentences for Friday's FRQ done. See you then.
Today we viewed some pictures of the current state of the Gettysburg battlefield and then analyzed the Gettysburg Address. Afterwards, we watched a few clips from the field Lincoln.
Tomorrow, we'll get into Reconstruction. The reading assignments are as follows: 1st Period - 455-464 5th Period - 451-461 Today we worked through the Chapter 15 Study Questions as we discussed many different aspects of the Civil War. Today, we were primarily focused on the political, social and economic events of the war, tomorrow we'll hit on some of the military events, most significantly, the Battle of Gettysburg.
There are no specific pages assigned for tonight, but it would be a good idea to start reading Chapter 16. I hope to get to Reconstruction tomorrow, but realistically it will be Wedne Today we spent the bulk of class reading/discussing South Carolina's justification for secession and an excerpt from Lincoln's first inaugural address. In these readings, we see the fundamentally different views on the nature of Union in the North and South. After working through these documents, we had a quick Type 2 from the assigned readings from Chapter 15. At the end of class, I handed out study questions for Chapter 15 that we'll use on Monday to work through the important concepts in Chapter 15. I've included a copy below. Make sure you have Chapter 15 finished by Monday.
