Today's class started with short video that gave an overview of the Washington administration. We then listened to the two Cabinet Battles from the musical Hamilton with a reading and discussion of primary documents in between. We finished with one more track from Hamilton that dealt with the significance of Washington's Farewell Address.
Assigned pages by Thursday are 182-192. Today's class was focused on the discussion of the article, "Sunrise at Philadelphia." We discussed the challenges in drafting and ratifying the Constitution. If you were gone from class today, you might want to get notes from someone and we also had two Type 2's today.
Tomorrow we will examine the issues that faced the Washington administration. Chapter 9 should be finished by then. Today's class started with a Type 2 over assigned readings and a discussion of the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and its main strength.
Afterwards, we worked on context with a couple of the documents from the 1985 DBQ focusing on context. I've updated the calendar with important deadlines for next week. Have a great weekend. During the first part of class, we went over the Chapters 6-8 test, the grades are in eSchool, the curve was out of 40.
We then did some work on the documents on a DBQ about the Articles of Confederation. Emphasis was placed on a practice 10 minute period where students tried to work through the first five documents. 3rd Period will pick up on this activity tomorrow. Today's class was spent taking the Chapters 6-8 Test, students had the remaining time to start their Chapter 9 reading. Since 4th period does not have class on Thursday, this week's reading is due on Friday and reflects the extra day to get it done.
By Friday, you need to read 160-173. Students spend class time today working on their first Long Essay. Any time remaining was spent reading Chapter 8. Remember, this chapter needs to be finished by Monday. I've posted the review guide for Tuesday's Ch. 6-8 test below. Have a great weekend.
Current events went a little longer than usual today, not a surprise. Afterwards, students had two Type 2's on the weekend's reading. We then discussed much of the important material from Chapter 8. Lastly, we discussed Friday's essay and students had some work time.
Remember that the reading for Thursday is 135-150. Today's class was spent going over three sample Long Essays from the 2015 question. Using the Long Essay rubric, student (in groups) scored three different essays. After each essay was scored, we discussed the reasons for different grades and then discussed the actual score using the feedback from the College Board.
Students also received the Long Essay #1 options for next Friday. The first part of today's class was spent going over the Chapter 4/5 Test. The grades are in eSchool. Remember, I am available most days after school if you want to talk about preparing for these tests in more detail. I also have set it up where Tuesday/Thursday there will be APUSH help available in the AAC. After the test, there was a lecture on the Decline of the Relationship Between the Crown and the Colonies. I've included the PowerPoint below in case you missed anything or were out today. Remember, the reading due by Monday is 107-134. Tomorrow, we will do an activity in which you score sample essays from the 2015 exam. This will hopefully be helpful in understanding the components of an effective Long Essay.
