Today's class started with a discussion of the interview given by Chief of Staff Kelly in which he stated that the Civil War was caused by a "lack of compromise."   One of the reasons I brought this up is to illustrate the fact that the study of is alive, the debates about it constitute part of our national character.

We then watched the Thomas Jefferson video from the presidents series and took notes on the differences between Jeffersonian ideology and reality.

An article regarding the Sally Hemings controversy was assigned . The article questions are due on Monday.  Remember, you do not need to do the first question.

Tomorrow, we'll review for Thursday's test.

Class today was spent writing the DBQ on the American Revolution.  Remember that you have pages to read for Monday.  Have a great weekend.

At the start of class, the Chapter 11 Guided Reading was handed out. By Monday, 204-220 need to be read.

We then spent the rest of the class preparing for tomorrow's DBQ.  I've included a copy what we went over in class below.

Today's class was spent learning about DBQ Writing.  We started by looking at the mechanics of how to integrate documents in support of your analysis.  Students then got into groups and after quickly looking through the documents from the 2017 DBQ, graded 3 sample essays.  We discussed the merits (or lack thereof) of each essay and hopefully in the process, developed a beginning of an understanding of how to effectively write a DBQ essay.

Today's class started with two Type 2's over the Chapter 10 assigned pages.  We then discussed the 1st 7 questions on the guided reading. 

We then listened to the song "One Last Time" from the Hamilton musical which addressed Washington's advice in his Farewell Address.

We finished class by discussing a couple of the documents for Friday's DBQ.  Chapter 10 needs to be finished by Wednesday, plan on a notebook check then.

Today's class was spent working on the documents for next Friday's DBQ.  Students did a practice 15 minute reading/outlining.  We then discussed the documents.   The Chapter 10 guided reading was also passed out.  Don't forget that there are pages due to be read by Monday.  Plan on a Type 2 (or maybe two Type 2's).  Crazy week, have a great weekend.

Today's class started with a discussion of Chapter 9 (after a notebook check).  3rd and 5th period then watched a short video on the Washington Presidency.  We then examined the two Cabinet Battles from the Hamilton musical and how they provide insight into the issues of the Washington Presidency.

4th period did not watch the video and will listen to the music tomorrow.  We had a shortened class due to the festivities in the cafeteria.  We'll be in catch up mode tomorrow.

We started class today by finishing the review jeopardy from Friday.  Students then wrote a Type 2 on assigned chapter readings and we discussed the weaknesses (and strength) of the Articles of Confederation.  We started working on some document analysis which we will continue to work on tomorrow.  

You need to have Chapter 9 finished by Thursday.

Today's class was spent on on assignment analyzing the Declaration of Independence.  We lost about 20-25 minutes of class time to picture day so we will finish discussing this document tomorrow.  The bulk of class tomorrow will be spent reviewing for Thursday's test.  Remember that the Chapter 8 Guided Reading needs to be finished by tomorrow.  See you then.

Class time was spent writing the first Long Essay of the year (New England and the Chesapeake).  Any remaining time was spent completing Chapter 8 readings.  Remember that the chapter needs to be finished by Wednesday.

Tomorrow after school I will have Office Hours from 2:20-3:20.  This is an opportunity to get a head start on reviewing for Thursday's multiple choice test. I've included the review guide below.  Also, picture day is tomorrow during class.
