4th period started by going over the test.
Both classes had a Type 2 over assigned pages and we then discussed the Gilded Age. Students finished the class with a practice 15 minute DBQ reading/outlining period. You need to have Chapter 23 finished by Monday. Only 3rd period had class today. Several people were gone, there must be some kind of half-day flu going around. 3rd period went over the multiple choice test, 4th period will on Friday.
Remember, view these Stimulus Based tests as an opportunity to review and learn where you need to focus your studies. These tests address big ideas that you are likely to see in the future. The plan is for 3rd period to get their Long Essays back on Monday, 4th period on Tuesday. The next big thing is a DBQ next Friday. You will get the question tomorrow. For office hours, I am going to start dedicating one day a week to APUSH, and the other to AP Euro. If there is sufficient demand, I will typically be able to add a second APUSH day. Office hours next week will focus on extra DBQ help. See you tomorrow. I've posted the Gilded Age PowerPoint from Tuesday if anyone needs it.
Today's class was spent taking the Multiple Choice Test over Periods 4 and 5. Students then had any time left over to work on assigned readings.
Remember that 488-498 needs to be read by Friday. Today's class started with a Type 2 over Reconstruction and we then played a review game. Spend time tonight and tomorrow reviewing Periods 4 (1800-1848) and 5 (1844-1877) for Wednesday's test. In office hours on Tuesday I plan on going over some sample stimulus based questions.
If you are looking for a potential review source, I recommend the following link: http://ap.gilderlehrman.org/ Today's class was spent writing Long Essay #3. Remember that you need to have Chapter 22 finished by Monday.
**Schedule Change - Half of 4th period will be at an EFE/EFA assembly next Tuesday. As a result, the Periods 4/5 Test has been moved to Wednesday. Office hours for next week will be Monday/Tuesday. 4th Period has scheduling tomorrow, 3rd period doesn't have class. Today we finished the Reconstruction notes and had time to work on Thursday's Long Essay. Remember that you need to have a thesis done by tomorrow. Many of you got this done in class today.
Today in class we started with a Type 2 Over Reconstruction. We then went through some notes on Reconstruction (the PowerPoint is included below). Remember that the failings of the Reconstruction era to ensure African American rights led to the need for a later civil rights movement. This is what necessitated the work of leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. Get working on your Long Essay question. The next reading deadline is Monday when Chapter 22 needs to be finished.
Today's class started by analyzing two DBQ essay samples from the 2015 DBQ. Hopefully as we continue to examine and analyze sample essays, students are able to develop their understanding of the structure and characteristics of a successful DBQ essay.
Afterwards, students were given the Long Essay question for next Thursday. A copy is included below. In an effort to help students in their AP classes, Loy Norrix is introducing teacher office hours. Twice a week, I will be staying after from 2:20-3:20 with the sole purpose of helping AP students. This could be a discussion/review of assigned readings, help with essay writing, practice stimulus based multiple choice, etc. I will post the days on the website calendar, they will typically be Tuesday/Thursday. I am hopeful that students will take advantage of this opportunity as we look to continue to grow as students during the second half of the school year. Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend. |
