Declaration of Independence/Type 2/LEQ Work

Today's class started with a discussion of the last part of the Declaration of Independence assignment from Friday.  Students then had an (open note) Type 2 over their weekend reading.  We then discussed the weekend reading assignment.

Students were then given a copy of the Long Essay Question (LEQ) rubric and the question that they will write on next week.  We went over the rubric and talked about Contextualization and Thesis statements.  Students had the remainder of the period to start outlining this essay.

Remember that Chapter 8 should be finished by Wednesday.

Chapter 7 Notebook Check/Type 2/Declaration of Independence

Today's class started with a notebook check and Type 2 on the last part of Chapter 7.  We then discussed the events leading up to the American Revolution.

Students then worked on an assignment that analyzed the Declaration of Independence. By Monday read 135-143 (you can stop at the section entitled "General Washington at Bay."

Reading Discussion/ALICE Training

3rd period looked at the sample SAQ's for the American Revolution question, discussed the assigned reading pages, and then had 20 minutes to work on the rest of Chapter 7.

Most of 4th period was the ALICE Training.  We did have some time at the end to discuss assigned readings.  Remember that Chapter 7 should be finished by Friday.  Plan on a Type 2 over the end of the chapter.

Finished John Adams Clip/Type 2/Common Sense

We started today's class by finishing the clip from the John Adams mini-series.  We then had a Notebook Check and Type 2 over Chapter 6, along with a brief discussion.  We then started an assignment on Thomas Paine's Common Sense that we will finish tomorrow.

By Wednesday you should have 117-126 read, Chapter 7 needs to be finished by Friday.

Chapter 5 Discussion/Constitution Day/Kahoot

Today's class started with a discussion of the last part of Chapter 5 and a notebook check.  Students then read a Newsela article on the Constitutional Convention along with the quiz.  The last part of the class was a Kahoot on the colonial period.  

The review guide for Thursday's test was handed out, it is included below.  It would be a great idea to start studying tonight.

Article Discussion/Context Writing

The majority of the class today was spent discussing the article, The Transformation of European Society.  We worked through a series of discussion questions both in small groups and as a class.  The remainder of the time was spent working on writing context from the New England/Chesapeake DBQ.  

Remember that Chapter 5 needs to be finished by tomorrow.  See you then.

Today's class started with a Type 2 over assigned Chapter 5 pages and a discussion of the content.  We then watched a video called Massacre at Mystic that addresses the interactions between settlers and Native Americans.

Finished DBQ Work, Type 2, Chapter 4 Discussion

Today's class started with students getting in their groups to finish discussing the New England/Chesapeake documents.  Each group then wrote a thesis on the board.  Students then had a Type 2 Reading Quiz and Notebook Check over Chapter 4.  We then discussed various parts of the content.

Remember to get a 9/11 story tonight for class tomorrow.  The next reading deadline is Friday.

Finished Ch. 1-3 Review Game, DBQ Work

Today's class started with finishing the Chapters 1-3 Review Game.  We then began working on documents comparing the settlement of the New England and Chesapeake colonies.  We'll continue with this tomorrow.

Remember that the Chapter 4 Guided Reading should be done tomorrow and I will do our first (of many) notebook checks.  You will also have a Type 2 Reading Quiz over Chapter 4.

Also, for Wednesday, spend a few minutes and ask someone that's old enough what they remember of September 11th, 2001.  We'll share those stories on Wednesday.

The bulk of today's class was spent taking the Pre-Assessment.  Students had the remaining time to work on the Chapter 4 Guided Reading which needs to be done by next Tuesday.
