Today we discussed the economic challenges of the Jefferson presidency including the Embargo Act of 1807 and the War of 1812. Additionally, we discussed how the War of 1812 while revealing the shortcomings of Jeffersonian ideology (military cuts) led to a sense of nationalism that opened the door for nation building.
Afterwards, students had the opportunity to get feedback on their DBQ. Readings for tonight are as follows: 1st/2nd Period - 255-260 5th Period - 251-257 Today we discussed the main points from the weekend reading including Jefferson's attack on the judiciary, the significance of Marbury v. Madison. the Samuel Chase impeachment trial, and the curious life of Aaron Burr. Afterwards, we focused on the DBQ with specific emphasis on integrating documents. I've included the example I used in class below. Remember, you need to finish Chapter 8 tonight, see you tomorrow.
Today, we started class by discussing the assigned reading from Chapter 8. Today's discussion included: regional identities, Native American resistance, life in the cities, Jeffersonian Reforms, and the Louisiana Purchase.

Today, students took the Chapter 7 quiz and received the article, Thomas Jefferson and the Meanings of Liberty. Remember, you are to have the article read by Friday and we will have an in-class writing assignment on the article that day. Additionally, the Chapter 8 pages to be read by Friday are as follows:
1st/2nd - 225-236 5th - 223-233 Today in class we finished the Review Jeopardy (end of trimester exam is a month away) and discussed the readings from Chapter 7. Specifically, we discussed Hamilton's plan for funding and National bank and also discussed the foreign policy problems facing the young nation.
Tonight's assigned pages are as follows: 1st/2nd Period - 212-217 5th Period - 209-214 See you tomorrow. Today in class we went over the Chapter 5/6 Test, had a quick Type 2 over Thursday's reading and then began a review game that addressed the year up to this point.
Today we analyzed the remaining documents regarding the effectiveness of the Articles of Confederation. This will be a major theme on Thursday's test. Remember that you need to finish Chapter 6 tonight. Tomorrow's class will focus on the debates over the Constitution and the compromises from which this document was forged. I've included a copy of the review guide for Thursday's test. Print it if you desire a hard copy.
Class today was spent on writing the first essay exam. The Chapter 5/6 test has officially been pushed to Thursday. The reading for the rest of the chapter is as follows:
