The bulk of class today was spent discussing 9/11. After hearing my story of the day, students then watched clips of the news coverage from that morning in order to get a feel for the experience of the event. Afterwards, students shared stories of the discussions they had with family members about their experiences of the day. A special shout out to 4th/5th period for their willingness to share these stories. Even though I've been doing a variation of this lesson for the past 16 years, today gave me a different and fascinating perspective to hear what parents felt on that day as they had just brought a child into this world, had one on the way, or even just found out that day that their child was conceived (my mind was blown by those stories especially).
At the end of class, students got the article, From These Beginnings. The questions are due on Friday. Tomorrow we take a look at our first DBQ! So much fun ahead. :)
