Today's class began with a discussion on the different arguments for and against imperialism. We then discussed U.S. policy in China, the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, and the Panama Canal in the context of late 19th century imperialism.
After a Type 2 over imperialism, we then focused on document analysis in preparation for blind DBQ work. For each document, students were given two minutes to write out a developed line of analysis. Students then shared their work with a partner and lastly, we discussed examples of this analysis as a class. The general feedback I received was that this was a helpful activity so we will do more of this over the next two months.
Tomorrow we look inward again as many Americans sought to address the problems still present in early 19th century America. Tonight's reading (638-645) will get you started.
