Today's class focused on reading and discussing the concept of mercantilism. Specifically, we looked at the Navigation Act of 1660 as an example of English attempts at economic regulation of the colonies.
It is important to remember though that this attempt at regulation was not heavily enforced, which gave rise to the idea of salutary neglect.

For homework, continue your reading of Chapter 3 and take notes on the colonial settlements in Pennsylvania, New York and the Middle Colonies. Be sure to consider in your notes who settled the area, the economic activity, and what challenges they may have faced.
